life is generally good.

however, i noticed that there have been some recent visits to the site, to my surprise. so i felt a  little obliged to write something…! i am also procrastinating at work in a serious manner – hence why i was at Rob’s blog in the first place. hoo dear. SO much to do, so little ticked off the list today.

my exciting news is easily dot pointed:

- Matilda learnt to swim last week. woo hoo! still with the floaty vest on, but it wont be long now, and

- James passed his recent batch of tests. no more for 6 months which is very very cool.

so whoever you are, you’d beter come back because i’ve written something now.

and Merry Christmas too. am not feeling overly festive but am very much looking forward to my holidays. and doing absolutely stuff all on them. love it!

Mum and Doug are here. manic times but lovely to see them. my job ends on Friday. haven’t found another one yet really but my boss has a couple of inteviews lined up which was kind of her – and she’s also a great reference to have onside. might be moving to Jakarta for a couple of months though.. just to make sure my life is completely mad… watch this space.

its the last week of the festival. i met Deborah Conway (one of my big idols) last night and managed to insult her. would have been better if i stopped trying to be cool and had danced around her saying ‘i love you i love you’. yup – even crazy stalker fan behaviour would have been an improvement on my effort… oh well. what to do?? off to see some cool looking Cambodian dude sing the Delta Blues! couldn’t resist buying a ticket just to see what the hell he comes out with.

otherwise am happy. well. sleepy. bit disconcerted and can’t keep up with my own life but will survive.

of course….. a headless shark on the side of the road in the middle of the bush..!? the beach was fairly close but still!!

and i forgot to mention the name of the festival/doof/bush rave was isotopia. supposed to be an anti uranium gig but there wasn’t much of that going on. just music and dancing and people off their trolleys. http://www.isotopiafestival.org/ the website is not the best. and i fell asleep before the eclipse. but it was a goodun anyhow.

i have lots of little news but no big news. actually that’s a lie. little Nina was born 3 weeks ago tomorrow.

she is the most beautiful baby in the universe. and Tilda the most beautiful little big sister.

Darwin in the dry season has not failed me. Camping, concerts, wine at the beach, cycling, chilled friendly people. Last weekend was a trip to Dundee Beach, via Berry Springs for lunch. Overnight @ Mum and Doug’s block, then driving home through Litchfield National Park with swims at Wangai Falls and Buley Rockholes. aaaaah. sooo nice. we came across some funny things at Dundee… mum i haven’t shown you these yet… so weird.. (** photos to come later. am having a technically challenged moment**)

last week went well. didn’t look for work though. hmmmm. i keep expecting that people are just going to call me and say ‘hey, come work with us, we’ll give you lots of money’ but the rude buggers haven’t yet. its all good though, it will work out.

just got back from a doof at Litchfield – kind of like a bush rave. I wasn’t sure if i’d enjoy it but it was really good. blew a tyre on the way . grrrr. someone forgot the tent poles. funny. nothing that a bit of rope and ocky straps couldn’t fix. pics to come. the live music was fantastic. the moon was full. the dj’s were great. there was a fresh water swimming hole and thermal pool. hippies weren’t too annoying and yobbos weren’t too loud. everyone seemed to have their own music source so there were a few music medley moments, but nothing too stressful. met some awesome new people and friends from long ago. arrived home dusty, a little hungover, sunned, sore from dancing, and very happy. we did the trip as a household and are all still talking to each other – nicely even.

Friday night was my friend Franck’s 40th and Kalinda and i had our first night ‘out’. friends of ours who are part of the Darwin Festival this year played at the house, framed by pawpaw trees, palm trees, bouganvillia, the moon, the stars, and a hills hoist with flashing lights that’s what its all about.

am back at the bookstore tomorrow. settling in for a cheesy movie and some chicken sundried tomato pesto pasta.

ahhhhh.

NEWS TO DATE: i have a room in a house in Jingili, i have found part time work at the university bookshop (bet my lecturers are reeeeally impressed with that career move…. i had a lecturer come in to the store who completely avoided my eye with the shame of his graduate student working in a book store. heheh. I AM NOT WORKING THERE FOREVER. promise). the work is easy, the books are interesting, the location is perfect, the people are inspiring. a perfect job for now. i am in Darwin indefinitely. no idea which country i want to be in let alone what i want to do…. but i’m getting there! am being healthy and feeling inspired. am on baby watch – not mine, our darling Kalinda’s who i love more than life – and am excited but nervous about the approaching due date… eek.

otherwise… life is cruising along. am dreaming of Kenya but loving being home at the same time. Kalinda is keeping myself grounded while letting my head be in the clouds at the same time. things will come together.

that’s all the big stuff.
